One of the clearest defenses of the early Christians during their days of persecution came from none other than a Pharisee. While the Sanhedrin questioned Peter and the apostles, Gamaliel spoke up and told his fellow religious leaders, “Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God." (Acts 5:38-39)
These words offer an encouraging reminder that we don’t have to struggle against the obstacles in our way. Whatever the endeavor, if it is God’s work, He will do the work, He will open the doors, and He will pave the way before us. What God establishes, no one can disrupt, and only what He establishes will stand the test of time and persecution. When working in the Last Frontier, we face constant challenges: political instability, government oppression, cultural hostilities, rough living conditions…the list goes on. Isaiah 26:12 states it beautifully: “Lord, you establish peace for us; all that we have accomplished you have done for us.”
