A pharmacist is desired on every clinical team that MMR sends to the field. Pharmacists bring great continuity to a clinical team. Teams work better when there is a professional who is used to working with pharmacuticals on a daily basis running the dispensary. Having a pharmicist also helps with the credibility of a team that is passing out medications.
Your role on a clinic team is vital. You will be asked to manage the inventory on hand, work with primary care personnel on what is currently available, and to handle any of the questions related to actually taking the medications. This will be a big request as most of the medications used on an MMR team are purchased locally. There will be very little to no opportunity to organize medications before a team leaves for the field.
MMR will seek to purchase medicines locally. Due to growing customs
issues and attention factors, we buy locally to simplify many aspects
of travel. We have a fairly standard formulary from which we secure
medications. Upon request, we will do our best to give physicians and
pharmacists some say over the formulary that will be purchased. Some
items may be locally unavailable. When that happens, we will work to
get the closest equivalent. Buying locally also does several things
for the local people. They will recognize local medicines, take them
better, and it supports the local economy.
If you are interested in participating on a medical project with MMR, please use the "Sign Up!"
form to let us know about you. We will ask you to fill out an MMR
application. Part of that application will be the necessity to get
other documents from you. We will need a scanned copy of these items:
-
First two pages of your passport
-
A copy of your current CV
-
Copies of your diplomas
-
Copies of your medical license
Your application will not be considered complete until those items
are in hand. We will need those items in order to secure permissions
for you to work in the host country.
